The Lamp Clock Project

Ahlers Designs First Big Break

Ahlers Designs began as a company solely devoted to the creation of quality jewelry. In 1995 Gail Ahlers had recently branched out into making pewter desk sets. Her pieces were being carried by a gallery in Boston and had gained a reputation for functionality and design. So when General RE approached the gallery for a gift for an upcoming conference for the 75th anniversary the gallery owner sought Gail’s services. Working with the logo of the company and under the parameters that the gift needed to be unisex Gail designed the pewter genie lamp clock and the coffee coaster. The clock was unique in that it was actually sculpted into the shape of their logo. It stood out as special gift with a practical function and a designer’s edge.

The clock was such a success that General RE placed a reorder for 7000 more pieced in 1996. All of these clocks were hand cast, manufactured and finished in Rhode Island. We also designed the custom packaging that the clock fit into, so that it would be safe during its travels.
